Early Orthodontic Treatment
Early orthodontic treatment, often called Phase I treatment, is designed to address certain developing orthodontic concerns while a child is still growing and some baby teeth are still present. When appropriate, early treatment can help guide jaw development, create space for permanent teeth, and address developing bite concerns.
Early treatment may be recommended for:
- Crowding or lack of space
- Narrow dental arches
- Protruding front teeth
- Crossbites, underbites, or overbites
- Jaw growth concerns
An early evaluation allows us to monitor your child’s growth and determine whether treatment is needed or whether continued observation is appropriate.

Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment
Two-phase orthodontic treatment is a specialized approach for children who may benefit from treatment at two different stages of growth and development. The first phase addresses specific concerns while a child is still growing, while the second phase typically focuses on aligning the permanent teeth and creating a healthy, functional bite.
Two-phase treatment may help guide jaw development, create space for permanent teeth, and address developing bite concerns at an appropriate stage of growth.
Our team will carefully evaluate your child’s development to determine whether two-phase treatment is appropriate and when treatment should begin.

Teen Orthodontics
The teenage years are a common time to begin orthodontic treatment. By this stage, most permanent teeth have erupted, while many teens are still growing and developing. Treatment can address crowded or misaligned teeth, spacing, and bite concerns while improving tooth alignment and bite.
We offer braces and clear aligner options designed to meet your teen’s orthodontic needs and fit into school, sports, and everyday life.

Adult Orthodontics
It’s never too late to improve your smile. Adults choose orthodontic treatment for many reasons, including straightening their teeth, improving their bite, addressing teeth that have shifted over time, and supporting long-term oral health.
With options including braces and clear aligners, treatment can be planned around your orthodontic needs, goals, and lifestyle.

Braces
Braces are a trusted and effective option for correcting a wide range of orthodontic concerns. We offer both metal braces and clear braces, giving patients options based on their orthodontic needs and preferences. Metal braces are durable and reliable, while clear braces use tooth-colored or clear brackets for a more discreet appearance.
Braces can help correct:
- Crowded or misaligned teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Overbites, underbites, and crossbites
- Other bite and alignment concerns
- More complex tooth movements
Both metal and clear braces provide precise control over tooth movement and can be used for a wide range of orthodontic needs.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners, including Invisalign® and Spark™ Aligners, provide a discreet and removable orthodontic option. Using a series of custom-made aligners, clear aligner treatment gradually guides the teeth into their planned positions. Because the aligners are removable, patients can take them out for eating, brushing, and flossing.
Clear aligners can address many common orthodontic concerns, including crowded or misaligned teeth, gaps, and certain bite problems. Our orthodontists will determine whether clear aligners are appropriate for your smile.

Retainers
Retainers play an important role in preserving your smile after orthodontic treatment. Once braces or clear aligner treatment is complete, retainers help keep your teeth in their new positions and maintain the results achieved during treatment.
Our team will determine the type of retainer that is appropriate for you and provide instructions for wearing and caring for it to help protect your orthodontic results.
Other Orthodontic Appliances
Orthodontic treatment may involve more than braces or clear aligners. Depending on your needs, specialized appliances may be used to help guide jaw development, improve bite relationships, create space for teeth, or support specific tooth movements.
Orthodontic appliances may include palatal expanders, space maintainers, Herbst appliances, Forsus™ appliances, Carriere® Motion™ Appliances, elastics, and other specialized appliances.
The appliance recommended will depend on your orthodontic needs and treatment plan. Our team will explain its purpose, how long it may be needed, and any instructions for wear and care.

Surgical Orthodontics
Surgical orthodontics combines orthodontic treatment with corrective jaw surgery, also known as orthognathic surgery, to address certain concerns involving the position of the jaws and bite. It may be recommended when orthodontic treatment alone cannot fully correct the underlying jaw relationship.
Surgical orthodontics may be considered for concerns such as:
- Significant overbites or underbites related to jaw position
- Open bites
- Jaw asymmetry
- Difficulty achieving a functional bite with orthodontic treatment alone
- Other significant jaw and bite discrepancies
When surgery is needed, our orthodontists work closely with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to coordinate orthodontic and surgical care.

TMJ Treatment
The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) connect the lower jaw to the skull and allow the jaw to move when speaking, chewing, and yawning. Problems affecting these joints or the surrounding muscles are commonly referred to as temporomandibular disorders, or TMD.
Symptoms may include jaw pain or tenderness, clicking or popping, difficulty or discomfort when chewing, limited jaw movement, jaw locking or catching, facial discomfort, or headaches that may be associated with jaw tension. Because similar symptoms can have different causes, a thorough evaluation is important.
Our orthodontists can assess your jaw function, bite, and areas of concern and determine whether additional evaluation or care from another dental or medical professional may be recommended.

Orthodontic Emergencies
Orthodontic emergencies are uncommon, but problems with braces, retainers, or other orthodontic appliances can occasionally occur.
Orthodontic problems may include:
- Loose or broken brackets or bands
- Loose or poking wires
- Loose or damaged appliances
- Lost, broken, or poorly fitting retainers
- Severe or persistent orthodontic pain
If you experience an orthodontic problem, contact our office. Our team can provide guidance, determine whether an appointment is needed, and arrange prompt care when necessary.
